Michelle Michina is a franco-japanese singer-songwriter and pianist. Born in Japan to a French mother and a Japanese father, she grew up in Tokyo where she learnt the piano. From an early age she developed an interest in african-american music. At 17, Michina moved to Paris and decided to devote herself fully to music.
At 19, she met Laurence Apithy, the director of “Black Music School”, who introduced her to singing blues, jazz soul and gospel. At this time she also recommenced piano study in order to compose and to accompany herself. In 2007 Michina formed the duo “Michina and Tomo” with Tomohiro Maeda, with whom she released her first album, “Premier Souffle” in 2010 for a tour of Japan. The group was so well received that they toured Japan a second time in the same year.
In 2011, Michina decided to start a solo career. In this capacity she has performed in a number of well-resepected music venues in Paris including “Le Sunset”, “La Scene Bastille”, “Le Sentier des Halles” and “Le Silencio”. In 2012, Michina met Stéphane Pit Le Navelan with whom she decided to work on a new album entitled, “Le Souffle”. In 2013, Michina joined Maia Barouh’s group as a backing vocalist. In 2014, final work was completed on the album, “Le Souffle”.
